Juneau where we are? Sitka Hoonah Glacier Bay, THATs where!

Still cold!!! Despite the mass of cruise ship passengers overtaking the capitol, we figured out ways to see some sites and countryside.  Goal? Goldpanning!

We wandered thru town and met a shopkeeper from Turkey...from Selcuk to be specific...we find out he's 2nd cousin to Mark's Sis in Law!!! Small world.

yup - gold!!!

Best halibut fish and chips we found was in Juneau at the Hangar on the Wharf.
Meanwhile we were figuring out the cruise ship eating thing. Apparently you can order whatever you want, as much as you want. All desserts? Sure. Several main courses? Yup.  So, we decided to bulk up on....vegetables!  What geeks we are.
cioppino, lamb and lots of veggies!

Skagway was a cute town, and exists solely because of the gold rush. My love of cemeteries led us to their original. We got to ride the train to the Yukon, following the trail taken by the Stampeders. Scenic - even though there was lots of snow, and relaxing.

Hoonah/Icy Pont hike warning!

walking thru rain forest - no bears!

Icy Point is a development, made by cruise lines and the native village, Hoonah, to create an activity-based location to be used by cruiseline customers.  The setting is beautiful. The employees are both global college students and residents of Hoonah. We hiked, watched hump back whales from the shore, and went whale watching on a boat. All fun and relaxing!
