Hangin' Out on Key Largo

We stayed in old cottages on Key Largo called Pelican Cottages.  Each cottage is different and we think we stayed in the oldest one based on the steel crank windows and the location of the cabin. We were on the bay side - west side - of the island, so each night we could sit at our own beach and watch the sunset while listening to live music from the bar down the beach.

ya, that's a Key sunset!

Ahhhh, hanging at our beach
We caught up with the brewery scene, finding a new brewery since last  year - Florida Keys Brewing Company.   It was a fun place, and what great beer choices!  What was nice was that most of the customers were locals, so it was even more fun. We also visited a fave restaurant of ours called MEAT for a burger and beer. Their creative burgers and adult beverages were fun and delicious!

I liked how the mermaid hair color coordinated with the beer color

Yes, there is wildlife in the Keys. But the wildlife we mostly ran into was the more low-key type.

Its all about the water in the Keys, and the fish. While we ran across a lot of water, the fish were a bit scarce for us. We ended up 'catching' our yellow tail snapper at the fish market where SOMEONE ELSE caught them that morning.

The Turk found some coconuts at the Pioneer Cemetery at Islamorada. His own pioneering spirit took over as he decided to break open one of the coconuts to see what he could get. What I got was fresh coconut water for my rum cocktail!

Quirky Keys

The Keys!!  Turk and I enjoy a quick jaunt down to the Keys for a change of venue. Yes, the beaches are much nicer where we live in Dunedin, but you don't really go to the Keys for the beaches. Its all about the laid back attitude, the wildlife, the locals and visitors who make it so special. We quickly acclimate, especially to the quirkyness.
Minion Tree!!
What you cant see is how big this is! BIG ASS Chair!

Visiting Frank Lloyd Wright

'Living' at Frank Lloyd Wrights Usonian house in Lakeland.

Cousin Stuart and husband Gerard wanted to see the Florida Southern College campus in Lakeland.  Seems they are fans of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. And, cousins Stuart and mom could catch up in the afternoon.
The FSC campus is the largest installation of his work in the work (10 buildings, 2 structures). The campus is on the National Register of Historic Places. Ground broke for the first building, the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel, in 1938.
Because dad retired as a professor at the college, they let us do the long tour for free - what a treat!

Next to the Annie Pfeffer Chapel is the smaller William Danforth Chapel, completed in 1955. Frank completed the Guggenheim the next year.

The Science building and planetarium were next on our tour. They were completed in 1958 and recently were repaired.
